FSKD at Manoa

Sensei Eric Marn has trained in the martial arts since 1958, and has trained in Shotokan Karate since 1976. He wants his students to excel in the martial arts not only through training in the home Dojo, but by visiting other schools to more fully understand their strengths and weaknesses. By observing other stylists a Shotokan student can develop appropriate defenses as well as new techniques. Following is a brief history of his involvement in the martial arts.

1958-1959	Studied Judo at Shobukan Dojo under Sensei Migita.
1964-1966	Studied Judo at UCLA under Sensei Junho Hyun
1969-1974	Studied Tang Soo Do under Sabum Nim Andy Ah Po
1974-1976	Operated the Nuuanu Tang Soo Do Club
1976-1990	Studied Shotokan Karate under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi and Sensei Jere Choo
1990-1997	Operated Karate Association of Hawaii - Kilauea Branch
1997	Started Operating FSKD (Manoa)
1998	Appointed the liaison to Cuba for FSKA
2000	Promoted to Rokudan (6th Dan) by FSKA
2001	Began training in Kali / Escrima Stickfighting under Datu Lowell Manabe
2002	Instrumental in the introduction of Kali / Escrima Stickfighting to Cuba
2003	Elected president of the Shotokan Kodanshakai International, an international association of independent Shotokan Karate instructors.
2004	Promoted to Shichidan (7th dan) by Shotokan Kodanshakai International.
2006	Promoted to Guru in Kali/Escrima by Datu Lowell Manabe.

Sempai Terri Oshiro started training in Karate in 1981. She is currently a Sandan, and teaches regularly at Manoa on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She also trained under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi when he taught in Hawaii, and during her time in Washington State she trained under Sensei Andre Dulce. Since returning to Hawaii she has trained under Sensei Eric Marn, Sensei Kevin Funakoshi, and Sensei Jere Choo.

1976-1979	Started training with Sempai Dennis Ueoka in Honolulu, Hawaii at Puck's Alley.
1980-1983	Trained under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi in Hawaii.
1986-1995	Trained under Sensei Andre Dulce in Washington State.
1995	Started training under Sensei Eric Marn, Sensei Kevin Funakoshi, and Sensei Jere Choo.
2000	Started teaching at Manoa.
